Pottery in the Yard

Pottery in the Yard is a welcoming ceramics studio nestled in the heart of Quex Park, Birchington, Kent. It offers a calming and creative space where people can connect with clay, discover the joy of making pottery and enjoy a hands-on artistic experience in an inspiring natural setting. Whether someone is taking their very first steps with clay or already has some experience, Pottery in the Yard provides a range of classes, courses and membership options that support everyone in their creative journey. From short introductory sessions to multi-week programmes and social pottery events, the studio aims to cultivate creativity, community and enjoyment through ceramics.
Pottery in the Yard was created by ceramicist Violet, an experienced potter whose love for clay and teaching has shaped the studio’s welcoming ethos. Having taught hundreds of pottery classes and built her own creative practice over time, Violet envisioned a space where others could learn, grow and find joy in ceramics. The old barn setting in Quex Park was carefully renovated to support this vision—providing not just practical facilities but a nurturing and peaceful space that reflects a deep appreciation for nature and craft. The studio’s story is rooted in community and creativity. Violet’s background includes professional training in ceramics and a passion for making art accessible to all. Pottery in the Yard is the next chapter in her journey.
Pottery in the Yard offers a variety of classes and courses tailored to different interests and skill levels. These include short introductory workshops like a mini pottery session where participants try hand-building and wheel techniques, to longer, structured 6-week introductory courses that guide students through hand-building, throwing on the wheel and glazing. In these courses, materials and firing are included, and participants usually keep their favourite pieces after they’ve been glazed and fired in the studio’s kiln.
The combination of practical learning, personal expression and community connection is why potters return time and time again. Participants not only make pottery but also meet like-minded people in a supportive environment. Whether you want to try pottery for the first time, build a creative hobby, spend quality time with friends, or enjoy a unique social event, Pottery in the Yard offers something that suits your pace and interests.

Pottery in the Yard is a great venue for bringing people together for a relaxed, fun and creative experience.
